Richard Bell Mason's Obituary
Richard (Dick) Bell Mason, 87, resident of Severna Park, died peacefully at home with his family on November 15, 2016. Dick is survived by is wife Ollie, son Rich Mason and wife Barb, his daughter Amy Dell and husband Philip, and son Don Mason. He was the loving grandfather for Ally, Amelia, Cole, Joey, Lilia, Tara, Tucker, and Tyler.
Dick was a friendly soul to all. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He relished family gatherings and went to countless youth athletic games of his grandchildren. His hobbies included tennis, bridge, and social gatherings with friends. After retirement, he took art classes at the Pascal Center and painted and sketched many pieces of art, many of which were placed in the county fair. He was a volunteer board member of Kinder Farm Park, a Pathfinder volunteer at BWI Airport, an Election Judge, and the Mens Library Book Club. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Dick was born in Drexel Hill, PA in 1929 and his family moved to Towson when he was 11. Once in Baltimore, he became a devoted fan of all the local sports teams: Orioles, Colts, Terps, Navy, and more. He attended Towson High where he played lacrosse and was also in the marching band.
He followed in his fathers footsteps and went to college at Dartmouth where he studied cartography. He played lacrosse, was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and graduated in 1951. After college he worked for the Army Map Service in Washington DC. Next he was drafted into the army and was stationed at Fort Huachuca, in Arizona where he played a lot of golf.
While working in New York after the Army, he met Ollie in May of 1959 and they were married the same year on November 28th. His career was mostly in sales for the building products industry which took the family to Annandale, VA, Cherry Hill, NJ, and finally settling in Severna Park, MD in 1974.
A service will be held at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church at 611 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Severna Park, MD 21146, on November 28, at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of Kinder Farm Park, 1001 Kinder Farm Park Rd., Millersville, MD 21108.
