Richard Kirchner, Sr.'s Obituary
Richard was born on March 31, 1938 in Churchton, MD. He died from complications of heart surgery on December 10, 2020 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He and his family moved to Eastport when he was a boy and he attended Anne Arundel County Public Schools. He moved to the Hillsmere Shores Community and lived there for 46 years. In 1961 he was drafted to the US Army and received an honorable discharge in 1963. He was employed by Thos. Somerville Co. of Annapolis for many years. He was also employed by the City of Annapolis Fire Department and retired in 1999, after 31 years of service. In 2009 he made his final residence in Centreville MD. He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed attending and participating in many classic car shows. His beloved 1932 Ford Coupe won several awards. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. His hobbies included tinkering with cars and engines, building model cars and boats, fishing, and watching Orioles baseball. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jo (Twiddy) Kirchner. He has three surviving children, Tina Wittman (Greg) of Centreville VA, Carlene Kirchner of San Francisco, CA and Richard Kirchner, Jr. (Kathleen) of Davidsonville MD. He has four surviving grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and two step-great grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Brenda Maxwell, and brother, Marion Kirchner. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harry and Grace Kirchner and brothers, Harry Kirchner, Robert Kirchner, Gene Kirchner, and James Kirchner. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers and gifts please donate to your favorite charity.
