Brigadier General (Ret) J.F. Hennessee (“Frank”), 77, passed away June 2, 2020 in his Heritage Harbor home with his wife, Cam, at his side. Frank (West Point ’65) was a decorated veteran who served for 33 years in the U.S. Army. F Read Obituary
I served under then Lt Col Hennessee in Berlin. He was the Battalion Commander then and I was in C-94 Field Artillery. I remember he commanded respect just by his swagger and you could tell he knew his stuff. He loved to run as well lol. Rest easy sir. We have it from here. Till Valhalla.
Most sincere (belated) condolences to BG J. Frank Hennessee and his family. I had the distinct honor of serving as the Logistics Officer (S-4) and Operations Officer (S-3) from June 1986 to June 1989, the time when then-Colonel Hennessee commanded the 3rd US Infantry (The Old Guard). He was an extraordinary professional Solider of the highest order: impeccable integrity, principled, determined, and always focused on Soldiers. His love for his family and the Army was 24/7.
I would echo Ray Colucciello Jr‘s memory. I served with the Col in The Old Guard and became his driver. He took me under his wing until I left to return to The Citadel. I never met a soldier who did not praise him. It was truly an honor to have known him, as a commander as well as a mentor.
I apologize for this late tribute to BG Frank Hennessee. I am a class of '88 West Point Grad and had the sincere privilege to be Aide-de-Camp for the General when he was stationed at Fort Drum NY as the Assistant Division Commander - Support. He was an amazing man, incredible leader, and overall definition of STUD! I am truly at a loss for words as when you spend that much time with your boss, your almost family. His leadership and guidance to me was more then just a General to Lieutenant relationship, i think in many ways he treated me like a son and wanted to see me succeed in life what ever path i took. To his family, he loved you all so much, especially his wife Cam. I would hear stories about all of you as we were jogging or deployed, or late nights in tents planning the next days agenda. America has lost a true defender of our nation and Arlington is where he belongs. Although i have not seen him in years, i will miss him.
I served under the General when he was a Colonel and commander of The 3rd U.S. Infantry ( The Old Guard) I wish to express my sincerest condolences. He was fine commander and definitely one of the best Battalion Commanders I ever served under. I am very sorry for your loss. Noli Mi Tangere Sir! Rest In Peace.
Served in The Old Guard under his command. He was a revered leader by his troops and will be remembered with respect.
I served in the BERLIN BRIGADE, CSB, of which he was the Battalion commander. My condolences to the family and I will always remember this man kindly.
Old Guard from 86-91...his soldiers still talk about him 30 years on!
BG Hennessee was a great Commander I served with him in the Combat Support Battalion, Berlin Brigade, 1980-1982. We met up again at Fort Monroe in 1996/97. Phyllis and I send our sympathy and prayers to Cam.
So sad to hear of his passing 😢 I remember "Colonel J. Frank Hennessee" very well. He was one of the Assistant Division Commanders at Fort Drum, 10th Mountain Division, in the early 90s. I remember that he presided over my Retirement Ceremony in December 1991. He was a "Soldier's Soldier". Rest in Peace Sir and my Condolences to the Family and Friends. "Climb To Glory"
