Rauf Ramsey, my sturdy oak of a friend for half a century, a counselor and Helper in matters large and small. I remember him as a young man helping my mother and her three boys move after my folk's rough divorce. I remember his being by my side at the Boston National Congress in 1995 when my father died after surgery in California. Most of all, I will remember and be grateful for the guidance he gave me through my own divorce, teaching and encouraging me to be the most courageous Dad I could be while facing major doubts.
I will always treasure our work together on the Amani Archives; we couldn't have created this legacy to Bapak and Subud without his dedication and capable help. I remember so many good times, cracking jokes just this past October, the last time I saw him. I often enjoyed talking up a storm with him about science fiction (he was a great fan...introduced me to Andy Weir's book The Martian). He also introduced me to a great TV show The Closer).
Rauf was a Mensch, capable and practical in this world while deeply devoted to his spiritual life. I loved Rauf as a brother and will miss him. I wish him Peace and Godspeed, in the afterlife.
Be seeing you one day, old buddy.
