Philip John Kellum Smith, 50, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2016, surrounded by his family. Phil was born in Washington, D.C., to Frances Barkus Smith and the late Jack Kellum Smith. He was a lifelong resident of Annapolis. Phil graduated from Annapolis Senior High School in 1983. He worked in business as a successful entrepreneur for many years until illness forced his retirement. Phil was a talented photographer who captured beautiful scenes of downtown Annapolis and Chincoteague Island, Virginia, as well as expressive and charming portraits of family and friends. He will be remembered for his intelligence, sense of humor and general wackiness, as well as his strength and grace in coping with debilitating illness. He is survived by his mother, Frances B. Smith of Annapolis, his twin brother Kyle and wife Kristin of Federalsburg, brother Peter Kellum and wife Brenda of Ohio, brother Dan Kellum and wife Terri of North Carolina, brother David Smith and wife Dolores of Denton, sister Jaye Smith of New York, brother Lee Smith and wife Cathy Nagle of Towson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be dearly missed by his little dog and best buddy Joey. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to family friend Tim Sykes for his years of devotion and care to both Phil and his mother Frances during Phil's lengthy illness. Phil was a great son, brother, uncle, and friend. A celebration of Phil's life is planned for the spring. Celebration updates will be posted on [email protected].
