Patricia Mekeel Downs, 76 of Georgetown, DE died on March 24, 2015
Patricia was born in Pittsburgh, PA on September 1, 1938. She attended Turtle Creek High School where she was an honor student and graduated in 1956. She received a scholarship to attend Westinghouse Technical School.
She worked at Westinghouse Electric Corp. and later at H.K. Porter Co. in Pittsburgh. She resided with her family in Monroeville, PA. In 1972 she moved to Silver Spring, Maryland where she worked as an Office Manager at Brimberg Sales for 15 years before retiring.
She remarried in 1992 to Joe Downs and they moved to Georgetown, Delaware. She started a new career as a social worker for Sussex County, DE where she worked for 10 years.
Patricia was a hardworking, loyal, fun and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to travel, especially to foreign places and also enjoyed going on cruises. She liked to play card games and was an avid bridge player. She and her husband Joe were a fun loving couple who liked to go dancing, cheer on the Redskins, and were very active in the American Legion.
She was a proud member of the American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary.
She is preceded in death by her husband Joe Downs; parents, Myrtle and Harry Mekeel; brother, Charles Mekeel; and sisters, Ruth Owens, Margie Walters, Helen Cooms, Jo Ann Rizzi and Roxie Martin. She is survived by her sister Judy Blum, children Niki and Andrew McFall and Kimberly and John Digges, grandchildren Carolyn and Jeff Williford, and Joe Downs, Chris Downs, Caitlin Digges, Sheridan McFall and Alexa McFall, step sons Daniel, Timothy and John Downs and grandchildren Michelle Riddle, Kristen Downs, and Teresa Downs.
A celebration of her life will take place at the home of Niki & Andrew McFall on Saturday, April 18th from 4pm to 6pm. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Donations may be made to AMVETS.org in lieu of flowers.
