Pamela Ann Bennett's Obituary
Annapolis resident, Pamela Ann Bennett, passed away suddenly on May 17, 2023, at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was 66.
Pam was born on March 7, 1957 in Shirley, Massachusetts, to Richard Y. Durkee and Diane E. Durkee (nee Mailloux). As the child of an Army Colonel, Pam spent much of her early years living on various military bases across the U.S., to include Ft. Devens, MA, Ft. Leavenworth, KS, Vint Hill, VA, and Alaska. She graduated from Ayer High School, MA, before attending Plymouth State College, NH, where she received her AA Degree in Secretarial Sciences. Post-college, Pam began her career as a secretary at the National Security Agency in 1977. Over the course of her career, she took on various assignments in Finance and Human Resources, ending her career as the Executive Assistant to the head of HR for NSA. Always a high energy and outgoing personality, Pam loved her job. In 2018, after 40 years’ service, Pam retired to afford herself the time to travel and spend more time with grandchildren.
Pam met her husband, George, in orientation class on their first day of work, and began dating shortly thereafter. They were married on October 11, 1980, and raised two children, Christine and Geoffrey. Over the course of the next 25 years, the family lived in Germany, Japan, and England. When not overseas, they resided in Ellicott City, MD. Summer vacations were spent at the family house on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH or at the beach. No matter where she was, Pam easily made deep and lasting friendships and remained close with so many. Most of all, Pam adored her family and loved spoiling her grandchildren, letting no distance come between being a presence in their lives.
Pam loved to travel. While stationed overseas, she visited virtually all the countries in Western Europe and the Asia Pacific region. After retirement, she started traveling the US. Most of the time, these trips were accompanied by family or friends she had met over the years. She was an amazing travel companion who enhanced the experience for all those who accompanied her. Cruises were one of her favorite things to do, spanning the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Hawaii, and Alaska. The joy she brought will live on among those of us who were lucky enough to have known and loved her. She is forever in our hearts and memories.
Pam is survived by her husband of 42 years, George; daughter Christine Renee Johnson and husband Wes, of Boerne, TX; son Geoffrey Bennett and wife Lindsey, of Ellicott City, MD; four grandchildren Cason and Kamryn Johnson & Pierce and Rhys Bennett; father Richard Y. Durkee of Nashua, NH; sisters Sharon Durkee of Hampton, NH & Renee Fletcher and husband Chris of Bedford, NH; brothers Richard Durkee of Amherst, NH & Steven Durkee and wife Kirsten of Annapolis, MD; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Interment will be in New Hampshire at a future date.
