Noriko S. Busby's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Noriko Sato Busby, who left us peacefully on April 13, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on February 4, 1937, in Kawasaki City, Japan, she graced our lives with her strength, elegance, and unwavering spirit.
Noriko was a proud and independent woman who navigated life with a remarkable blend of cultural richness and personal achievement in New York City, where she made her home. She is survived by her two children, Deborah Takako Lewis and Michael Steven Busby, who were the light of her life. She was also a cherished Obachan to Haruko Taylor Berry and Noah Hisako Midori Lewis, and an adoring hee-Obachan to Chandler Quinn Kioko Berry.
Noriko is also survived by her siblings: her brother Hiroshi Sato of Kawasaki City, Kanagawa-Ken, Japan; her sister Kiyoko Inamasu of Yokohama City, Kanagawa-Ken, Japan; and her sister Kimiyo Nichols of Oceanside, California, son-in-law, Michael Lewis and a host of family and loved ones whose lives she touched.
In her pursuit of knowledge, Noriko studied Philosophy and Sociology in college, embracing the ideas and perspectives that shaped her worldview. She had a successful bilingual career in accounting, showcasing her resilience and dedication. Her impeccable style and a keen eye for fashion were reflected not only in her elegant wardrobe but also in the beautiful clothes she made for herself. Her discerning taste encompassed her love for not only sushi and sweets but also for any and all things Japanese, reflecting her deep appreciation for her heritage. Though she lived in the United States for many years, she preserved her cultural roots close to her heart and influenced her life, providing a rich backdrop for her active social life in New York, making last connections and creating cherished memories along the way.
In her later years, she was a frequent visitor at the local senior center and Japanese cultural center, embracing opportunities to engage with her community, celebrating her heritage and forming bonds with fellow enthusiasts. In her quieter moments, she found joy in binge-watching her favorite shows, particularly "Law and Order" and "Grey’s Anatomy," often providing her own commentary.
Noriko’s beautiful legacy lives on through her children, son-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchild, and siblings who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
In honor of her life, a memorial service will be held on May 15, 2025, at 3:00 pm, Lasting Tributes, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD, where we invite family and friends to come together to celebrate her journey and the impact she had on her loved ones.
