Nicholas "Nick" Lewnes' Obituary
Nicholas Louis Lewnes departed this world the evening of September 13, 2016 at the age of fifty-six. He was born on June 6, 1960 to Louis Samuel (Louie) Lewnes and Norma Horsman Lewnes at the Anne Arundel General Hospital. Nick's father owned and operated a little bar and grill in Eastport known to locals as "Lou's Corner"; his mother was a schoolteacher, then a homemaker. Louis was born in Annapolis; Norma, in the town of Bivalve on the Eastern Shore. Louie would go on devote himself to raising Nick and his older brother as a single parent in Eastport after the untimely death of their mother in 1960 from natural causes shortly after Nick's birth.
After attending local schools, Nick would devote thirty years of faithful service to the Maryland General Assembly, working in Distribution Services and reaching the position of Mail Room Supervisor before retiring in 2013. He was, from childhood, an enthusiastic sports fan, closely following local teams like the old Baltimore Colts, the Ravens, Orioles, and Navy. He was also a big fan of the music of the Beatles, and would never outgrow his love for The Three Stooges.
Preceded in death by his parents, Nick is survived by his son Joshua Kohut, brother Gregory (Greg) Lewnes, his Aunt Anna Hagner, and several cousins. The family will receive visitors at a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, September 20 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Lasting Tributes on 814 Bestgate Road, with interment in the adjacent columbarium immediately afterwards. Light refreshments and finger food will be served.
