Nels Lawrence Schumacher's Obituary
Kind, patient, thoughtful, and calm. A lover of all things natural. He enjoyed birding, reading, and art. Above all else he was a passionate father and husband.
The bond he had with his children Ida (age 7) and Russell (age 5) was unmatched. He shared with them his passion for the outdoors; searching for salamanders in the backyard, nurturing native plants, catching ghost crabs on family trips to Nags Head NC, and leaping to catch frogs and turtles on a whim. The legacy he has left behind is one of love and unwavering support. He took on much of the parenting over the past two and a half years, to help his wife Jenna complete her degree in anesthesia. It is his ongoing dedication to his family that has built a lasting foundation we can all continue to grow on. Nels' third child Thea is due next month, and our hearts ache thinking about all she will miss not knowing her cherished father.
He is survived by an extensive and loving family: His wife Jenna Schumacher, and children Ida, Russell, and soon-to-arrive daughter Thea, his father Larry Schumacher, devoted mother and step father Denise Schumacher and Ron White, sister Lauren Gordon and nephew Prentiss Gordon. Aunt and Uncle Stephanie and Vernon Bonner on his mother’s side, as well as aunts and uncles on his father's side; Susan and George Batlas, Cathy and Steve Siperko, and Judy and Pat Gemmill. Numerous cousins are also left mourning the loss of a great family member and friend.
Nels, your life and love were a true blessing. How lucky we all are, to have had someone that makes saying goodbye so hard. Always on our minds and in our hearts.
“Fare you well my honey
Fare you well my only true one
All the birds that were singing
Have flown except you alone.”
- Brokedown Palace, Song by Grateful Dead
