Nancy Elizabeth Gray Badertscher's Obituary
Nancy Elizabeth Gray Badertscher of Annapolis, MD died on April 26, 2012 at the Mandrin Hospice House due to stage four metastatic lung cancer. She was 48.
Nancy was born on December 3, 1963 in Fall River, Massachusetts to Franklin Gray and Florence (Bell) Gray. She attended Westfield State College in Westfield, Mass., later transferring to Gordon College in Wenham, Mass. where she received a bachelor’s degree in music education. Upon graduation, she began as a string instrument teacher in the Somerset Mass. Town School system. In 1994, she entered Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Hamilton, Mass., where she received a master’s degree in Christian Education.
While attending the seminary, she met her husband, Eric A. Badertscher. They were later married on August 2, 1997 and resided in Gloucester, Mass, working together on the North Shore of Mass. During their time in Gloucester, they began a family with their daughter, Sarah.
In 2001, Nancy and her family moved to Annapolis, MD. She was a stay at home mom and also taught private string music lessons at local music stores and at her home. During the mid 2000’s, she created her own music studio at her home and string orchestra for local children, playing at local schools and churches. From 2001 on, Nancy had the opportunity to play at a number of local shows at community theaters such as the Anne Arundel Community College and the Second Star Theatre in Bowie, MD. Recently, she was part of the “Rusty Musicians” program through the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra ; a program for continuing education for local musicians. There she was able to partake in a master class with Marin Alsop and had the opportunity of playing on stage at the Meyerhoff with the Baltimore Symphony.
Nancy will always be remembered as a true Boston Red Sox fan. One of her finest moments was in 2004 and 2007 when “her Red Sox” won the World Series.
In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy is survived by her daughter, Sarah Badertscher,; two brothers, Thomas Gray (Debbie) of Somerset, Mass. and William Gray (Charlotte) of Haverhill, Mass.; two nephews, David Gray of Somerset, Mass. and Jacob Gray of Haverhill, Mass.; and one niece, Kelsey Gray of Somerset Mass.
A visitation/wake will be held between the hours of 2 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Lasting Tributes Cremation & Funeral Care, P.A., 814 Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD 21401. A funeral service will take place at 11AM on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road, Severna Park, MD. Burial will be held at Bestgate Memorial Park, Annapolis, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 and/or the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at BSO Development Office 1212 Cathedral Street Baltimore, MD 21201.
