Myron Wasiuta's Obituary
Major Myron Wasiuta (USMC-Retired) passed away on July 23, 2024, in Annapolis Maryland; after a lengthy illness with progressive supranuclear palsy, a disease attributed to his exposure to Agent Orange during his military service in Vietnam. He was 84.
Myron is survived by his wife Dolores of 63 years, his three sons- Myron Wasiuta (Terry) of Spotsylvania, VA, Kenneth Wasiuta (Susan) of Wentzville, MO and Eric Wasiuta (Cathy) of Annapolis, MD. He is survived by ten grandchildren: Elizabeth (Josiah Ward), Joshua, Thomas, Julianna, Kate, Amber, Addison, Autumn, Aiden, and Breanna. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Aurora, Wilder, and Marleigh. He was preceded in death by his infant son John who died in 1961 at two days old; his parents John and Klara Wasiuta and six brothers. He is survived by his brothers Joseph and George Wasiuta, both of Philadelphia, PA.
Myron Wasiuta was born in Hlyboka, Ukraine on April 10,1940 and immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island with his family around 1950, where they eventually settled in Philadelphia, PA. He attended Central High School, where he excelled in sports, especially on the gymnastic team. He met his future wife Dolores Christine Piecyk while still in high school, and then in 1959 enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a Private. Myron and Dolores were married a short time later in September 1960, just after he finished USMC Basic Training. They then moved to Millington, TN for his first assignment. He proved to be an excellent recruit, and within a few years, was selected for Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Quantico, VA where he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. He was then sent to State College, PA where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University.
Myron had a distinguished career in the USMC. During his tenure in the Marine Corps he received many awards of accommodation including the Navy Commendation Award and the Gold Metal & Rifle Marksmanship Award. He served a tour in Vietnam at Danang DASC from June 1970 to June 1971.
After Vietnam, he was transferred to El Toro Marine Corps Air Station from 1971-1973, and then pursued his master’s degree in electrical engineering at the Naval Post-Graduate School in Monterey, CA in 1975. He was then stationed back East and moved to Dale City, VA and worked at the Marine Corps Headquarters until he retired in 1980. After retirement, he accepted a job as a manager at Westinghouse and moved his family to Annapolis, MD in 1981.
While Myron worked at Westinghouse, he managed a team of engineers who were working on radar systems for the Marines. In the early 1990s, he left Westinghouse and enjoyed a long retirement spending time his grandkids and travelling with Dolores. He also continued
to work on things around the house and on his vehicles. In his spare time, he was a mathematics tutor for students at Annapolis High School. He was a supporter of the SPCA and cared for many feral cats that found their way to his backyard over the decades. Myron Wasiuta will be dearly missed by all those who knew him and loved him.
