Muriel Monique Simms' Obituary
Muriel Monique Simms departed this life on Saturday, January 14, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Olga Carr Carroll and the late Newton Edward Carroll, Sr.
Muriel was a graduate of the class of 1942 from the former Wiley H. Bates High School. She was joined in marriage to John Marshall "Johnny-Boy" Simms, Sr. on August 14, 1942. From this union, they were blessed with seven children.
She worked at Carvel Hall Hotel for several years. Muriel was employed at the United States Naval Academy where she worked in the laundry. She moved to the Navy Hospital as a laundry clerk until she retired.
Her Christian walk began at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Eastport, Maryland before joining Mount Olive A.M.E Church over 60 years ago. She served on many committees, fundraisers and organized programs such as: Women's Day, Senior Usher Board, Stewardess, and Church Missionary Society.
Muriel was an avid football fan; she especially loved the former Baltimore Colts. She enjoyed cruising. Her favorite trip was when she traveled to Israel. She loved cooking; for many years you could find her in her basement kitchen preparing her famous crab cakes and many other dishes.
Known affectionately as "Mama Merl." She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great- great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Muriel was preceded in death by her siblings Newton E. Carroll, Jr., Louise Smith, Stanley Carroll, husband John Marshall Simms, Jr. and son Gene Ronald Simms, Sr.
Left to cherish her memories are her children: Andree "Polly"(Edward), Craig (Evelyn), John "Henpen" (Mamie), Karen "Cherry", Reggie "Chicky", Odette "Cookie" (Fredrick), one sister-in-law Anita Carroll, daughter-in-laws Linda Simms, Agnes Simms and Beulah Simms, 25 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 13 great- great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.
