Milton "Buddy" Powell's Obituary
Milton E. Powell, Jr. (b. January 16, 1941) passed away peacefully at home on June 16, 2024.
Mr. Powell, “Bud”, is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bonnie, his son Milton “Butch”, daughter Grace, and granddaughter Kathryn, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bud was born and raised in Baltimore City and graduated from Edmonson High School. His summers were spent with his grandparents in Melfa, Va. In 1961 he married his sweetheart Bonnie and moved to Annapolis. As his children came along, Bud worked hard to care for his family. He had many skills and this reflected in his various projects. Early on he was a mechanic and could be called the original DIY guy. Bud could fix or build just about anything. As a Large Loss Specialist with Nationwide Insurance, he retired in 2002, after many years of helping Nationwide clients.
A skilled and creative woodworker, Bud, a member of the Annapolis Woodworkers Guild made toys, puzzles, games, furniture and loved spending time in his workshop. He was awarded numerous ribbons at the AA County Fair for his projects. As a master craftsman, he was invited to work on rebuilding the acorn a top of the Maryland State House dome: “Slice #18” of the State House acorn is a fitting remembrance of his talent. Scouting was important throughout his life. He was a mentor to many, guiding them to accomplishments and success.
Bud loved the outdoors and family camping trips. He spent years traveling with Bonnie and enjoying the world around him. He was a long time member of the Elks of Annapolis and enjoyed dinners, dances and time there with friends.
Mr. Powell was a humble, unassuming man who loved his family and friends and valued his country.
Family and friends will gather for a celebration of life at 1pm on Saturday, August 3 at the Historic Baldwin Hall located at 1358 Millersville Road, Millersville, MD.
