Mildred Alma Ellerbe's Obituary
Mildred Alma Ellerbe, age 86 of Annapolis, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack R. Ellerbe, her parents Robert Harbart and Alma Miller, two brothers, Arthur Harbart and Wilford Harbart and a sister, Betty Ann Pope.
She was born and raised in Bristol, Connecticut. As one of her friends once said, Mildred was a true New Englander. She had a quick wit and a dry sense of humor.
In the late sixties, she and her husband Jack moved to the Annapolis area where they shared a love of the water and boating - But her secret passion was flying. Mildred took flight lessons at Lee Airport in Edgewater, Maryland in the late eighties. She would often say to make sure you looked out your window around a certain time and she would fly over.
In addition to raising two children, Mildred helped her husband run his business, helping out with accounting and secretarial work. Not one to remain idle, later in life she worked as an Assistant at the State of Maryland Health Department and worked on many programs to help those in need such as the WIC program and the Christ Child program. She was also an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Annapolis, Maryland.
After a late retirement in 2006, she took an interest in quilting by hand, which her mother taught her years before. She was meticulous at the art and now her quilts are cherished by many in her family. She also liked to keep fit and over the years took an interest in Water Aerobics, which she did on a weekly basis.
Mildred is survived by her brother and his wife, Robert and Sandra Miller, a sister, Arlene Malena, a son, Kurt Ellerbe and his wife, Sharyn, a daughter, Erika Ellerbe, and of course - the apple of her eye - her grandson Nico Ellerbe. She also leaves behind numerous other loving relatives and friends.
She will be missed.
