Michael Dennis Wojton's Obituary
Michael Dennis Wojton, of Annapolis Maryland, age 74, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on August 1, 2022.
He was born in New York on October 21, 1947 and was raised in Baltimore. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Florence and his father, Stanley. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in zoology. His early jobs included salamander collector, Italian-car mechanic, schoolteacher, and Taekwondo instructor. He later worked for the Maryland Department of the Environment and specialized in water supply. Mike was committed to public service and particularly in preserving the environment. He became Executive Director of the Environmental Operations Group at the Maryland Environmental Service (MES). After retiring from MES, he worked as a consultant at Heery Engineering, Public Works Director at the Town of Kensington and Kent County and as a consultant for the City of Annapolis. He especially loved working at the Maryland Environmental Service and was proud of his team and their accomplishments. He met his wife, Beth, there and they truly loved working together.
In his younger years, Mike was an avid mountaineer, rock climber, and caver. Some of his favorite climbs were Mount McKinley, Mount Rainier, El Capitan, and Half Dome. He had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel and enjoy life with Beth. Together they canoed the boundary waters multiple times, kayaked in Ontario, and skied just about everywhere. Mike introduced Beth to many outdoor adventures and patiently and lovingly taught her what he knew. Mike and Beth enjoyed sporting clays and hunting. They were fortunate to hunt in Argentina, Ontario, South Africa and Namibia as well as a number of locations out west. Mike enjoyed recounting hunting stories over lunch after goose hunting on the eastern shore with favored hunting buddies, Beth, Doc and Christian. No story could be told too many times!
Mike was enthusiastic and sociable. He and Beth loved hosting dinner parties for their many glorious friends and relatives. Mike was quite the chef, an amazing storyteller, knew a lot about many things and was always willing to share!
Mike leaves behind his adoring wife of 25 years, Beth, his sister Pat Bridge, nephew Mark Bridge and Mark’s wife Mandi, sister-in law Jeanne, nephew George Czyzia and beloved Frenchies Omar and Olive.
