I had the honor to serve alongside at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego with then, GySgt Michael J. Mullins who had returned for a second tour where he served as a Senior Drill Instructor, Chief Drill Instructor, and Regimental Drillmaster
Mike poured his knowledge, experience, and passion into every Marine he worked with. His mentorship, especially to his fellow Drill Instructors, left a lasting mark on all of us.
Michael was more than just a consummate professional — he was a joy to be around. Always full of laughter, always bringing energy to the room… and never turning down a plate of carne asada fries or a carne asada burrito.
I have shared this sad news with our fellow Marines, and I know his absence will be felt deeply for years to come.
Rest in peace, brother. We’ve got the watch!
