Michael Phillip Anderson's Obituary
Annapolis resident Michael Phillip Anderson, 77, passed away at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore on November 19, 2023.
Michael was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 25, 1946, the son of the late Thomas Henry Anderson and Yvonne Ann (Deynet) Anderson. After high school, he joined the US Coast Guard and served six years. Mike then worked for the Marriott Corporation managing Hot Shoppes cafeterias; his work with Marriott brought him to Texas, Ohio, and ultimately Washington, D.C., where he met his wife, Kathy. After leaving Marriott, he worked for the remainder of his career in the construction supply industry as a salesman. Mike was proud to have served his customers well while providing a good life for his family. He retired in 2017.
Mike and Kathy were married in October 1976, and they sailed away (despite impending stormy weather) from their wedding reception into their life together. Their desire to be close to the water led them to Annapolis, where they established a home in Epping Forest in 1978. Mike designed their currant house, which they built and lived in for last 30 years. He and Kathy became an integral part of the community they quickly grew to love. Mike was involved with the Epping Forest clubhouse and its many community events, particularly the annual Oyster Roast for over 42 years. Along with Kathy, he also served as the kitchen committee for Anne Arundel Fish and Game for 20 years. Some of Mike’s favorite activities were boating, golfing, woodworking, caring for pet fish and wild birds, soaking up the sun at the beach, winning thousands of nightly backgammon games against Kathy, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathy; two sons, Thomas Anderson, Christopher Anderson (Emily); two grandchildren; and a niece.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind, PO Box 3950, San Rafael, Ca. 94912 or your favorite charity.
