Melvin "Butch" Rawlings' Obituary
Melvin E. Rawlings (Butch), 73, passed away on February 18, 2023, from complications of his spinal injury. Butch is survived by his daughter Melissa (Missy) Martin of Jessup, his son in-law Mike, and grand-daughter Emily. He also leaves behind 9 siblings, Bessie Oliver of Annapolis, Linda Webb of NC, Debbie Todd of Shady Side, Carol Rawlings of Annapolis, Shirley Rawlings of Annapolis, Eddie Rawlings of Churchton, Sharon Chace of Annapolis, Gary Rawlings of Annapolis, Judy Reppenhagen of St. Leonard, and plenty of nieces and nephews and friends. Butch is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Rawlings and his parents Florence Cherry and Earl Rawlings.
Butch graduated from Annapolis High School in 1967. In 1970, he was drafted to the Army and served two years stationed in Panama. Shortly after coming home, he met the love of his life Bonnie, whom he met through his sister Debbie. The two love birds were then married on June 15th, 1973. Butch was a long-time employee with over 25 years of service to Thomas Sommerville where he worked in the warehouse and drove trucks.
Butch was social and active man who was deeply involved in restoring antique cars and then placing them in shows. He enjoyed doing yard work, gardening, playing horseshoes, having barbecues, and hanging out with his friends. Butch is an avid collector of die cast cars, sailboat models, and artwork by his grand daughter.
Although Butch will be missed by his family and friends, he is now reunited with his loving wife. A celebration of life is being held at Lasting Tributes on March 2, 2023 from 6 pm -8pm. A burial service will be on March 3, 2023 at 10:45 am at The Veterans Cemetary in Crownsville.
