Maynard Eric Wells' Obituary
Maynard “Jebby” Wells, 86, passed away peacefully after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Born to Georgia and Robert Wells, Jebby spent much of his life in Southern Maryland before settling in Arnold, Maryland, where he built a life rooted in routine, kindness, and quiet strength.
Jebby worked for many years at Western Electric Telephone Co and later with PEPCO, retiring as a meter reader—a job that suited him well, as he never met a stranger and enjoyed being out in the community. He loved the simple things that brought him joy: playing softball, where he earned the nickname “the rabbit” for his quick feet; tending to his garden; and taking long daily walks. Even in his later years, Jebby could be seen walking several miles a day, greeting neighbors and enjoying the outdoors until very near the end of his life.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years, Carolyn Wells, who brought great companionship and joy into his life. He also leaves behind his children Kenny Wells (Peggy), Richard Wells, and Tracy Wells, who will remember him for his gentle, quiet spirit. Jebby was preceded in death by his son, Doug Wells.
A memorial service will be held on December 4, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews By the Bay Catholic Church in Annapolis, Maryland, with a reception following in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society—organizations close to the family’s heart.
