It’s hard to put into words what someone like Skip meant to all of us, but I feel so grateful to have had the time I did with him.
I have so many fond memories with Skip, but some of my favorites were simply sitting and listening to him tell a story. He could be talking about something that happened 65 years ago and still remember every detail — the month, the weather, the time of day. He’d tell it with his eyes half-closed, like he wasn’t just remembering it… he was right back there, watching it all happen again in his mind. It always amazed me that at 94 years old, he could recall those moments so clearly. Meanwhile, I can barely remember what I did last week.
I truly loved hearing his stories, and I feel so honored to have gotten to know Skip better over these past three years and to have grown so close to him. I will miss him dearly, and he will always hold a very special place in my heart.
And I think one of the greatest gifts he leaves behind is those stories, those memories, and the love we’ll continue to carry with us every day.
