Mary Grace Van Nest 's Obituary
Mary Grace Van Nest of Davidsonville, Maryland died at her residence on Tuesday January 31, 2012. She was 69.
Born in Plainfield, New Jersey on September 15, 1942, the daughter of Walter J. and Grace D. Paltz, she graduated from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, class of 1960. She then received her bachelor’s degree from Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, West Virginia. Mrs. Van Nest also graduated from the school of Medical Records at the Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
She was very active in Girl Scouts from youth through adulthood when she became a leader trainer. In 1982 she started working with Navy Medical Records while her husband was stationed in Iceland. She continued working in the local naval hospital at all of her husband’s subsequent assignments, ending her career at the then Bethesda Naval Hospital in 1998.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville and the American Health Information and Management Association. She was an avid quilter and an accomplished Tole painter. She and her family enjoyed several years of sponsoring Naval Academy Midshipmen.
She is survived by her husband, Captain, Ronald L. Van Nest, NC, USN (Ret) of Middlesex, New Jersey, whom she married on September 27, 1966; her daughter Charlene M. Van Nest; one grandchild Amy G. Van Nest of Davidsonville and her brother Christopher Paltz of Easton, Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her son, Ronald L. Van Nest, Jr., and her brothers Walter J. Paltz, Jr. of San Diego, California and John Q. Paltz of Tampa, Florida.
Friends may call at Lasting Tributes Cremation and Funeral Care, P.A. , 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, Maryland 21401 on Friday February 3, 2012 from 6 to 8 PM.
The funeral will be held on Saturday February 4, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville, Maryland 21035. Family and friends may gather in the narthex of the church at 9:30 AM.
Burial will take place at a later date at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery in Bridgewater, New Jersey.
