Mary Morrow Melvin's Obituary
Mary Morrow Melvin of Annapolis, Maryland died peacefully at her home in Ginger Cove on February 8, 2017. She was born August 15, 1923 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to the late Athalia and Norman Morrow.

ay where she attended Annapolis High School, graduating in 1941. She attended Mary Washington College for two years before transferring to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, graduating in 1945. She married John Melvin in 1946. She worked as a social worker for Anne Arundel County and was a kindergarten teacher before becoming a full-time mother, raising her family on Melvin Road in Annapolis. In mid-life she began an award-winning career in real estate, retiring in 1992.
She was a generous supporter and passionate lover of the arts, serving on both the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Friends of the ASO boards, as well as on the board of the Friends of The Arts (Maryland Federation of Art.) One of her proudest accomplishments was being a founder and artistic program coordinator of the Annapolis Jazz Festival in the 1990’s.
An avid golfer, she won three women’s club championships at the Navy Golf course over several decades. She was thrilled to have her first hole-in-one on the 7th hole at age 85.
She had a life-long love of travel and visited many countries around the world with family and friends. Her sense of adventure and curiosity led her to explore far-flung sites on four continents.
She is survived by her brother Captain William Morrow of Annapolis and sister Katherine Wyper of Arizona, son John Melvin, Jr., daughters Debra Farrell (Michael), Elizabeth Melvin, and Jennifer Melvin (Carlos Garcia) all of Annapolis, and grandchildren Matthew Melvin, James Melvin, Lindsay Farrell, Sarah Farrell, and Madeline Hughes.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Monday, Feb. 13, 11 am, at Ginger Cove. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra or Hospice of the Chesapeake.
