Mary Elizabeth McNamara's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth McNamara of Annapolis, Maryland passed away on April 12, 2021, after a brief illness. She was 88 years old.
She was born in Shelton, Connecticut on August 12, 1932 to James and Alice McNamara. She had a sister, Patricia, and a brother, James. She attended Shelton High School, graduating in 1950.
She was a longtime employee of the Anne Arundel School System, where she worked in the Media Center at Cape St. Claire Elementary School, West Annapolis Elementary School, Annapolis Middle School and Tyler Heights Elementary School.
Mary had a sunny disposition, a loving kindness and a smile for everyone she met. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a wit and loved to laugh. She will be most remembered by her sense of personal style — always wearing her earrings, scarves and looking her best. Her interests included travel, shopping, theater, movies, and trying the latest restaurants. She loved reading, especially Edith Wharton and other classics. She loved family most of all.
She is survived by her children Christopher James Hogan of Sarasota, Florida, Thomas Lawrence Hogan of Brooklyn, New York and daughter Betsy Ellen Earley of Annapolis, Maryland, and several nieces and nephews and many friends. She is preceded in death by her former husband James Gary Hogan of Lusby, Maryland, as well as her beloved son, John Grant Hogan of Annapolis, Maryland, her sister Patricia Jane Rychlik of Monroe, Connecticut and her brother, James McNamara of Manchester, Missouri.
Her goodness, graciousness and loving heart will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 12 at 1 p.m. at Lasting Tributes at 814 Bestgate Road in Annapolis. Food and drinks will be provided after a small service.
The family would like to express their thanks for the wonderful help and care given by Hospice of the Chesapeake. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the Chesapeake.
