Martin Joseph Clark Jr.'s Obituary
Long time Harford County resident, Martin Joseph Clark, Jr. (Joe) passed away on December 5, 2023, at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Bowie. He was 79 years old.
Joe was born on August 1, 1944, to Ruby Whitehead Clark and Martin J. Clark, Sr. He was raised in the Carney area of Baltimore County where he attended Parkville High School. In 1972, he graduated from the University of Baltimore with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
He met Suzanne Marie Laibe on a blind date in 1966 and a year later married her. They were married for 56 years. They spent most of their married life in Forest Hill, Maryland, where they lovingly raised their family. Joe and Suzanne were lifelong campers and loved to travel. They enjoyed road trips across the United States and Europe.
Joe worked as a Quality Control Manager for Reid-Avery in Baltimore and Teledyne-McKay in York, PA. Both companies manufactured welding products. Prior to retirement, he worked as a Right of Way agent for Harford County government where he purchased property for public works projects. He was most proud of his work for the Ma and Pa walking trail in Bel Air. Joe retired in 2010.
From his teenage years, Joe was an enthusiastic driver of MG sports cars. He often bragged that he commuted to York, Pa from Bel Air for 10 years in his MGB with only two breakdowns. He was a long-time member of the MGs of Baltimore car club. Joe also enjoyed woodworking. He specialized in creating wood buildings for HO scale train gardens.
Joe is survived by his wife, Suzanne, their daughter, Carin Fleshman (Jeff), son, Casey Clark (Marney) and son, David Clark (Julia). Joe was ‘Pop’ to six grandchildren, who he loved dearly. He is also survived by his sister, Noralee Yowell (ne Clark).
A celebration of life is planned for spring, 2024 in Harford County.
