Marleda Clay DiPierri's Obituary
Marleda Clay Di Pierri was born Thurna Marleda Clay on July 11, 1952, at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. She was the second child of Andrew and Henry Etta Clay (nee Wheaton). Marleda was baptized at Saint Benedict the Moor Church in 1952. She attended kindergarten at Columbia public school, elementary and middle school at Saint Gregory's school on Dexter and Cass Technical High School where she majored in Chem Bio. After graduating from Cass Marleda attended Wayne State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974. She completed a graduate degree and moved to Dallas, Texas to work for Texas Oil and Gas. She worked for EDS (Electronic Data System), which was later purchased by Hewlett-Packard. In 1987, she moved to Seattle Washington to take a position at Boeing and afterward she worked for the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), a subsidiary of the World Health Organization, as a systems manager and engineer. She remained at IASP for the last 17 years of her career and transferred to the Washington D.C. office in 2013.
After years of battling a chronic illness that progressed during the last three years of her life, Marleda passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at approximately 6:23 am. She is survived by her mother, a sister, a nephew, twenty-first cousins, countless second cousins and the memories of her family and friends in the United States and overseas.
