Marjorie Lee Lassiter's Obituary
Marjorie Lassiter lived a life full of warmth, resilience, and joy, and those who knew her will remember her not just for what she did, but for how she made people feel.
She began her journey in Rockport, Texas, shaped by the rhythms of the Gulf Coast and her father’s work in the oil industry. It was there she met Harry Benter, with whom she shared 44 years of marriage and a lifetime of memories. As a Navy wife, she embraced a life of constant change, building a home wherever they were stationed and raising their four children—Judy, Richard, Doris, and Jeanne—with love, strength, and unwavering optimism.
Life in a Navy family meant starting over every few years, but Marjorie met each move with a smile, a quick laugh, and a remarkable ability to make any place feel like home. During their time in Keflavik, Iceland, she kept the family grounded with her cheerful spirit and steady care, turning even the most remote posting into a place filled with warmth.
Marjorie had many talents and passions. She was an exceptional cook whose meals brought everyone together, and during her time in Annapolis, Maryland, she even worked as a sailmaker—a testament to her creativity and willingness to try something new. She loved music, ballroom dancing and laughter, especially karaoke, and found joy in connecting with people from all walks of life. No matter where she was, she built community with ease.
Above all, Marjorie was a devoted and nurturing mother. She encouraged her children to explore, to be curious, and to embrace life’s adventures with open hearts—just as she did. Her love, guidance, and sense of fun shaped the lives of her family in lasting ways.
She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth; her children, Judy, Richard, Doris, and Jeanne; her seven grandchildren, Byron, Asher, Levi, Madeline, Emilia, Isabella, and Benjamin; and her great-grandchild, Robin.
Marjorie’s legacy lives on in the laughter she shared, the love she gave so freely, and the spirit of adventure she passed on to all who knew her.
