Margaret Leffler McKim's Obituary
Margaret Leffler McKim, 69, of Chalk Point in West River, MD, and White Stone, VA, died December 1 after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease at La Casa in Annapolis.
Mrs. McKim was born March 25, 1942 in Washington, D.C. She was the daughter of William F. Leffler and Ruth M. Leffler.
On July 11, 1964 she married John “Jack” P. McKim. Mr. and Mrs. McKim made their home in Hyattsville, MD. In 1968, they moved to West River, MD.
Mrs. McKim was a volunteer at the Crownsville State Mental Institution, Maryland Federation of Art, and Friends of the Annapolis Symphony.
She loved sailing and competitive racing. She was a member and former treasurer of the Pirates Cove Race Club. She was active in the Annapolis Yacht Club, including managing regular “cabin fever” cruises to the Virginia Mariners Museum. Mrs. McKim was a very giving person who was always concerned about others.
She attended Roanoke College and graduated from Anne Arundel Community College.
Mrs. McKim worked as a secretary for the federal government for more than 25 years at several locations including The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater. At the Department of Energy she met Red Adair. She retired in 1995.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sisters, Barbara L. Gwynn of Somerville, MA and Alexa M. Leffler of Rockville, MD, and her brother Paul L. Leffler of Arnold, MD.
A memorial gathering will be held at 5:30 to 7:30PM on Monday, December 5, 2011, and at 10:00AM Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Lasting Tributes Cremation & Funeral Care, P.A., 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. A memorial service will also take place at the funeral home at 11:00AM Tuesday, December 6, 2011.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra.
