Margaret Korrot's Obituary
Margaret Julia Korrot passed from this life, at the age of 90 years, on September 15th, 2014 at the Iliff Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunn Loring, VA.
Marge, as she was known, was born on January 15, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA. to first generation Irish parents, Pearl and Charles Helveston. She attended Little Flower girls’ school in Philadelphia. After high school she married the late Roy Korrot before sending him off to fight in WWII. She supported the war effort by working as a “Rosie Riveter” for a Philadelphia defense contractor. After the war, she started her family of six children subsequently moving to New Jersey. There she raised her children while supporting her husband in starting and growing his parochial school uniform business.
While living in New Jersey, Marge was an active member of Sacred Heart parish in Riverton. Her service to the parish included many years as PTA president, sponsoring fund raisers, organizing social events, sewing vestments for special occasions, cooking for nuns and priests, and visiting the sick and bereaved.
After raising her family and getting divorced, Marge went to work as a clerk for the engineering firm of Stone & Webster where she worked until she retired to Sterling, Virginia. Here she resided at William Watters House and attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Herndon.
Marge loved music and loved to dance. In her early years she danced to the big bands of Glen Miller and Tommy Dorsey. She never left the house without her dancing shoes in hand.
Marge also loved to cook and was well known by more than one generation for her meatball sandwiches. It was also well know that she liked her beer, and you could always get a cold one at Korrot’s house.
What Marge loved best was being surrounded by her family. Her Irish eyes would smile and laugh at the site of her children, grandchildren or great grandchildren entering the room.
She is survived by her six children: Dennis, Tim, Jerry, Nancy, Laurie, and Tom. Grandchildren: Rene’, Jennifer, Rori, Dean, Chapel, and Loni-Claire, and Great grandchildren: Jeremy, Makenzie, Jordan, and Jaiden.
She is preceded in death by sister, Patricia Helveston and brother, Charles Helveston.
Her final resting place is with her siblings at St. John Newman Cemetery in PA.
