Mable Sharps Thompson's Obituary
Mable Thompson, born on January 27, 1942, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, in Bowie, Maryland.
Born in Lothian Maryland, she was the daughter of James and Iva (Gross) Sharps. Mable attended Bates High School and Bowie State University. Soon she met, married, Tyrone Thompson and had three beautiful children. She loved being an elementary school teacher and held a Master of Education. She retired after teaching over 30 years with most of those years at Davidsonville Elementary School.
As a longstanding member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, she served as the Church Treasurer and on various committees. She also led bible study and could be called on often to read scripture. She loved to travel and was the “unofficial” travel coordinator for her friend group where she organized various trips throughout her retirement.
She is survived by her daughters Kandi Ford, Kim Williams (Mark Williams), grandchildren Kaeshelle Ford Patrick (Bradley Patrick), Jonathan Ford, sister Denise Hutchins-Cole (Quincy Cole), many cousins, nieces, nephews and countless treasured friends. She was preceded in death by her son Barry Thompson, parents James and Iva Sharps, brother Norman Sharps, sisters Pynette Jefferson, Clarice Sharps and Lucille Salisbury.
The memorial service will be held on December 28th at 10am at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Lothian, Maryland.
Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. And those who know, will miss her jubilant “Hey Girlfriend!” and “I was just thinking about you!”
