Louise Patricia Coates' Obituary
The Life & Legacy of LOUISE “FLOSSY” PATRICIA COATES
Flossy answered God’s call and entered eternal rest, after a long-term illness, on Monday, August 25, 2025 peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on January 5, 1948, in Annapolis to the late Maude Thomas and the late Emmanuel Thomas.
Flossy attended Anne Arundel County Public Schools and graduated from Wiley H. Bates High School. In her younger years, she was a baton twirler for Tommy Tom Band. She was an active member of Cecil Memorial United Methodist Church, where she served on the Committee of United Women in Faith and sang on the Women’s Celestial Choir and Mass Choir. She was passionate about her work as a Nursing Assistant and dedicated over 30 years to Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Crownsville.
Flossy was classy, sophisticated and feisty, but she was full of so much love. She touched so many lives with her wise cracks and display of affection. Although she enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends, she was truly a homebody. She was content with being alone at home and watching the TV. She will be remembered for her genuine acts of kindness, wisdom, courage, stylish wardrobe, and most of all her sense of humor. She loved to “cut up!”
Flossy is preceded in death by her Husband, William Coates “Billy Block;” Parents Emmanuel and Maude Thomas; Bonus Father, Hilton Powell; Son, Adrian Henderson Sr.; Aunt, Bessie Cousins; Daughter In Law, Carla Henderson.
Flossy leaves to cherish loving and hilarious memories to her Grandson and committed caregiver Adrian “The Original AJ” Allen (Donald), Son Allen Henderson Sr; Devoted Sister-Cousin, Denise Howard; Special Cousin-Niece, Monique “Mo” Howard; Bonus Daughter, Shenell Gross; Grandchildren, A’Leisha Henderson, A’liana Henderson, Allen “AJ the sequel” Henderson Jr; Bonus Grandchildren, Dashawn Thomas, Ashley Thomas, Trey Gross; Great-Grand children, Colby Allen, Sa’riyah Allen, Averie DeJesus, Angel DeJesus; Special Cousin, Erica Butler, Childhood Friend Deborah Ann Johnson and a host of other close family and friends.
