Lonnie C. Brown's Obituary
Lonnie C. Brown departed this life on Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at 2:00 pm at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. He was born on May 28, 1938 to the late John H. Brown, Sr. and Carrie R. Brown. He was preceded in death by his sister Betsy V. Pindell and grandson Lonnie Addae Brungo.
He graduated from Wiley H. Bates High School in 1956. He was employed with the Anne Arundel County Board of Education for over 30 years where he provided maintenance services for several schools during his tenure. He was also an entrepreneur and business owner to include Greens by Brown Residential and Commercial Lawn Care, Brown’s Glo-ing Cue Club and L & G Boutique Clothing for Women and Men.
Lonnie loved life, his family, his church, people and music. He was a community leader, mentor and friend to those who knew him. Throughout his adult life he was a member of many musical groups including the Brown Singers and was a pianist with the Van Dykes Band. In the early 1970’s he formed the award winning Annapolis Drum and Bugle Corps, providing community activities for the youth of Annapolis.
He was a life long member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee Emeritus, Chairman of the Transportation Committee and photographer for the History Ministry.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 49 years, Gloria J. Brown, three daughters; Robin Brown of Annapolis, Velvet Brown Brungo of State College, PA, Kristal L. Brown of Chantilly, VA and son-in-law Michael Angelo Brungo of State College, PA. He also leaves his siblings Cynthia Colbert, John H. Brown, Jr., Margaret Geneva Brown, and Glenn N. Brown, Sr. all of Annapolis, two brothers-in-law, James Allen Pindell, Sr. and James Colbert, Jr., sisters-in-law Marguerite Pulley, Marjorie Pearsey, Arlene Gross, Maggie White, two grandsons, Shomar Johnson and Liam Michael Brungo, three great grandsons and a host of other relatives and friends, especially Albert Brown and Joseph “Zastro” Simms.
An escorted horse drawn carriage procession will take place in downtown Annapolis Tuesday, February 8, 2011 from 10AM until 10:30AM. A wake will begin at 10:30AM at Asbury United Methodist Church, 87 West Street, Annapolis, MD, with funeral services to follow at 11AM. Interment will be held in Bestgate Memorial Park, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD immediately following the funeral services.
