Lois L. Slade's Obituary
Lois Lorraine Isaac Slade, “Mama Lois,” daughter of the late Lillian Irene Johnson, “Mama Lil” (her best friend) and the late Robert S. Isaac “Ace” departed this life on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. She was at home, surrounded by family and loved ones. Lois was born in Annapolis, Maryland on November 26, 1937. She resided in Annapolis her entire life. Lois attended the schools in Annapolis and was graduated from the former Wiley H. Bates High School with the class of 1955. While at Bates, she was a member of the girls’ basketball team.
Lois joined in holy matrimony with Herman P. Slade. From this union two children were born. Kevin Preston was the oldest. Two years later, they were blessed with their daughter, Eunice Michele. Kevin was deceased in October 1982. Both children brought them great joy. Kevin was spoiled by his mother and Eunice was the apple of her father’s eye.
After graduation, Lois began employment at the Annapolis Public Library on West Street, assisting Mrs. Eloise Richardson. Later, Lois used her talents and personality in the laundry and dry cleaning industry. She later took employment as a Daycare Instructor with the Salvation Army. She ended her career at Sears Automotive Services serving in a managerial capacity.
Born into a strong Methodist family, under the guidance of her mother and Grandmother, Maggie C. Johnson, Lois, at an early age joined Asbury United Methodist Church, West Street. She remained in membership there her entire life. While worshipping at Asbury, Lois served on various committees and programs, such as; Staff Parish Relations Committee, Women’s Day Committee, Class Leader, and especially the Homecoming Committees. One of her favorite things she enjoyed and looked forward to doing while in service at the church was welcoming the congregation and visitors to the sanctuary. During those welcoming remarks she always blessed the congregation with a “Spiritual Vitamin.” Lois was humble during service and truly enjoyed and appreciated her Asbury family.
Other activities that brought her satisfaction were reading her Bible and participating in Bible studies; feeding “God’s sheep” both physically and spiritually; and the special times she spent devoted to family activities and events that included friends. Her kind and gentle smile, which she wore daily, her witty remarks, her mild manner and welcoming personality were her trademark traits. Everyone who knew “Mama Lois” by these special traits sought to be in her company. Those special traits will be sorely missed.
Loved ones who preceded her in death include both parents, her husband, her son and grandson Kevin Lavelle; sisters Valencia L. Fuller and Bernice J. Johnson; brothers Norman L. Johnson, Roland C. Johnson and Donald V. Isaac.
Left to cherish her sweet memory is her daughter, Eunice Michele (Erik) grandson Khiyon P. Washington, Sr. and great grandson Khiyon P. Washington, Jr. Her siblings include one sister, W. Annette Mobray-Owens and brothers Charles E. Johnson (Vondalere), Dr. Leslie A. Mobray, Robert S. Isaac, Jr., Maurice S. Isaac and Michael Isaac. She has two sisters-in-law Goldie L. Johnson and Barbara Isaac, and one maternal aunt, Mrs. Florence E. Coates. Lois was Godmother to niece Kimberly Pack-Wilder and nephew Marc D. Williams. She is also survived by 12 nieces and 10 nephews. There are close and special cousins Mrs. Viola Brown and Mrs. Beverly Gwyn. Her village also included special relationships with Lisa F. DeJesus, Mary E. Parker, Margaret Nick (AKA Sister), Jerry and Adrienne Pittman, Norman (Muskrat) Johnson, Shequatta Howard and Gerald Boston. There is a host of other relatives, friends and associates.
