Linda Barrick Squires' Obituary
ANNAPOLIS – Linda Barrick Squires, 69, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend, passed peacefully on April 8, 2017 at her home in Annapolis, MD, following a 5-month battle with colon cancer.
Linda grew up in Pittstown, NJ on a dairy farm and attended North Hunterdon Regional High School. She graduated from Mount Union College, Alliance Ohio, and later earned a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Caldwell College in New Jersey. She began her teaching career as a middle school math teacher in Summit, NJ. After a five-year career break to raise her twins, she returned to teaching at HB Whitehorne Middle School, Verona, NJ. Linda played an active role in both the local and state chapters of the National Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs (NOMOTC) holding multiple offices and eventually serving as President of the New Jersey Chapter and was elected to Chair the National NOMOTC Convention in 1996. Linda also held numerous leadership positions in the College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains, which annually awards scholarships to area high school seniors and college students. Linda and Doug moved to Annapolis, Maryland following her retirement from 28 years of teaching, to be closer to Karen, Joe and grandchildren. Linda enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, reading, listening to music, cooking, sewing but most of all she cherished spending time with her grandchildren.
Linda is survived by her husband of 43 years, Douglas; her daughter Karen and her husband, Joseph Davis; her son Kevin and his wife, Kimberly; her brother Donald and his wife Susan; her sister Joanne, and 4 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Orville and Audrey Barrick of Pittstown, NJ.
Linda’s life will be celebrated in services both Maryland and New Jersey. A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 12th from 6-8pm at Lasting Tributes Cremation & Funeral Care, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, Maryland 21401. A second viewing will be held 10-11 AM on Thursday April 13th with a funeral service starting at 11:00am. Services in New Jersey will be held at Rossi Funeral Home, 1937 Westfield Ave, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076, Tuesday, April 18th, beginning with a viewing from 10-11:30AM followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM. A private interment with be held on Wednesday AM at Locust Grove Cemetery, Pittstown, NJ.
