Linda M. Mathieson's Obituary
Linda Marie Mathieson, 81, of Odenton, and formerly Lanham, MD., passed away on Sunday, February 9th, 2025, in her sleep with her daughter and son by her side.
She was born January 27th, 1944, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Joseph W Gibbs and Hazel Gibbs.
Linda grew up in Anacostia, D.C., where her nickname in grade school was “Cookie”. Linda graduated from Anacostia High School in 1962. In 1963, Linda married Elwood “Frankie” Mathieson, with whom she would raise two children. She worked as an insurance claims manager at the Air Force Association in Arlington, VA for nearly 40 years. Frankie and Linda shared a love of Ocean City where they had a second home.
Linda was a kind and generous person who valued quality time with her family and loved ones above all else. She loved the music of Elvis Presley, the salty breeze of Ocean City, and fine meals in good company. She enjoyed gameshows like The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune, and shopping for herself and others from QVC.
Linda is predeceased by her parents, Hazel Gibbs and Joseph Gibbs, as well as her sisters Patricia Black and Joan Wilhelm.
She is survived by her son, John David (Tammy) Mathieson of Lenexa, KS., and her daughter Pamela (Daniel) Salziger of Odenton, MD. Linda is also survived by her three grandchildren who were the light of her life. Mitchel Reicheneker (Katie) of Colorado, John Mathieson (Odenton), Emma Mathieson of Kansas. Linda is also survived by one great granddaughter, Charlie Reicheneker of Colorado. Lastly, she is survived by many nieces and nephews, and family members that meant so much to her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Linda’s name.
