Linda Lee Cumbow's Obituary
Linda Lee Cumbow, 79, passed away at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Maryland, on February 29, 2024.
Linda was born in Washington, DC, on February 12, 1945, the daughter of the late Irene E. and William John Bartz Sr. Linda was a graduate of Suitland Senior High School. After high school she was employed with the C&P Telephone Company in Washington, DC, for a number of years. She married her late husband, Richard D. Cumbow, on April 24, 1965.
In her younger years, Linda was a Sunday School Teacher at Epiphany Episcopal Church in Forestville, Maryland. She was a Cheerleading Coach for the Camp Springs Boys and Girls Club in Camp Springs, Maryland. She was also active with the Girls Scouts.
Her and husband Richard became business owners of Duffy’s III in Wayson’s Corner in the 1970’s. After Richard died in March 1996, Linda carried on the business for another 19 years until the sale of Duffy’s in 2015. She was an entrepreneur and a business mentor.
Linda was a very giving person. She helped a lot of individuals, whether it was monetary, finding someone a place to live, assisting in sending someone to school to help fulfill their dreams, or donating to organizations that she believed in their cause. Linda was someone that you could always count on.
Linda was predeceased by her husband, Richard; father, William John Bartz Sr.; mother, Irene E. Bartz; and sister, Dorothy E. Bennett. She is survived by her daughter, Erica Lee Cumbow; brother, William John Bartz Jr., nieces, Donna Lee Pirner and Susan Lee Proels (John); nephew, William John Bartz III (Tanya); great nephew, Bryan R. Taylor (Jennifer); great nieces Erin Lee Pfenning (Paul) and Shannon Jean Woodhurst; great-great nephews Beau Raymond Taylor and Jaxon Ryder Taylor; and great-great nieces Abigail Lee Taylor and Violet James Pfenning.
A Celebration of Life will be at Lasting Tributes, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401 on Friday, March 22, 2024, 2:00-4:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 pm following the Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society of Calvert County, 2210 Dalrymple Road, Sunderland, MD 20689 an organization that she felt strongly about. Linda was a true lover of animals.
