Lila Tannenbaum Weisberg's Obituary
Lila Tannenbaum Weisberg, 89, passed away at the Rebecca Fortney Inpatient Care Center of the Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, MD, on August 26, 2024, after bravely facing a long illness.
Lila was born on July 1, 1935, in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of William Tannenbaum and Fannie Fisher. After studies at Temple University, Hunter College, and the New York School of Interior Design, she began a decades-long career as an ASID-member interior designer and space planner in both New York and Maryland. She made friendly and inviting home and office spaces up and down the East Coast (and stared down many a burly contractor). Most of Lila’s clients became lifelong friends. Market trips were adventures, fun outings where the exchange of money for beautiful items never rose to cloud the camaraderie between Lila, the vendor, and her client.
Lila was a “force of nature” in the best sense of the phrase. She was protective of her family, loyal to her friends, and committed to liberal politics. Lila was an avid reader of all genres, a gloriously skilled and inventive cook (and collector of recipes), a world traveler, a lover of Broadway shows (something she shared with her granddaughter Alexandra, along with 75 years of Playbill programs), and a fan of movies, new and old. The monikers she cherished most were “Mom,” “Grandma Lila,” or just Lila. A friend and confidant to many, she never lost her wry sense of humor and interest in others, world affairs, and her treasured art and recipe books.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, David Weisberg; sons William (Jennifer) and Robert (Diana); and grandchildren Alexandra and Ethan. She will be missed by many others.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Hospice of the Chesapeake.
