Leonora Gertrude McCormack's Obituary
Dedicated wife, loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend; Leonora Gertrude McCormack, age 93, of Gambrills, MD died on May 25, 2015 surrounded by her family. Leonora was born on January 9, 1923 in Great Kills, Staten Island, NY to Alice Rowe and Leonard Wood. She was one four children including, Alice, Dorothy and Leonard. She graduated from New Dorp High School in Staten Island, NY in 1941. After high school she worked as an engineering assistant at Bell Labs in New York City.
She married Edward J. McCormack on August 14, 1943 in Syracuse, NY. They met on the Staten Island Ferry and married after a six month engagement followed by his deployment to London. Her children are Lynn Corrigan, Allen McCormack (R.I.P.), Kathleen DeLuca and Brian McCormack. She has seven grandchildren, Thomas Corrigan, Vincent Corrigan, Regina Corrigan, Steven Corrigan, Megan Ridner, Caitlin McCormack and Brendan DeLuca and five great-grandchildren.
Her interests included; her family, pets, nature, gardening, sewing, painting and reading. Leonora was an accomplished baker. She volunteered by knitting baby blankets and sweaters for infants at Sara’s House in Baltimore, MD. She encouraged her husband, one of the founders of the South County, Knights of Columbus. Leonora touched the lives of many people with her open hearted nature. She raised her children in the Catholic faith and had great devotion to Saint Anthony.
