Lawrence "Marty" Dobbs, Sr.'s Obituary
Lawrence Martin Dobbs Sr., 89, of Annapolis, Maryland passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025 at Gilchrist Hospice Center in Columbia, Maryland.
Marty was born in Washington, D.C. on August 3, 1936 to Lawrence Jesse and Carolyn Louise Dobbs, the eldest of four children. He graduated from Annapolis High School in 1954. After high school he studied Forestry at Forest Ranger school in Lake City, Florida -- graduating in 1955. In 1957, Marty joined the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany at Rhein Main Air Base until 1961.
After returning to the States, he began a 37-year career as a land surveyor, working across the state of Maryland. In 1964, he married Myrna Roth, and shortly thereafter, the couple moved to Hillsmere Shores, where they would reside for nearly 60 years. Shortly thereafter Marty joined the Jaycees where he and Myrna met many of their closest friends.
He retired in 1998, devoting his time to biking, fishing, crabbing, contra dancing, hiking, golfing, and spending time with his family. Marty volunteered at the USO at BWI airport for over 20 years, driven by a deep desire to support young service members.
He is survived by his wife, Myrna; his son, Lawrence Martin Dobbs, Jr. (Claudia); his daughter, Charlene Adele Dobbs; his grandson, Andrew; his sisters, Patricia Church (Jim) and Diana Green; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is predeceased by his parents; his brother, Gene Dobbs; and his brother-in-law, Denver Green.
The funeral service will begin at 10:30 am on December 22, 2025 at Eastport United Methodist Church in Annapolis with a reception to follow. Burial with military honors will take place following at 2:00 pm at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.
