Kurt Jude Samson's Obituary
Kurt Jude Samson, of Annapolis MD, a beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away September 8th 2022, at the age of 69 years, at home in his favorite reading chair.
Born February 11, 1953, in Tehran, Iran, Kurt was many things to many people — husband of 43 years to Debra (Marcian), father to Jessa (Miyamoto) and Marc, and papa to four grandchildren: Lucy, Riley, Oliver and Maeve. The son of Lyle Samson and Lois (Walsh), he is survived by five siblings: Cynthia (Nevins), Lisa, Karl, Sara, and Eric. Kurt was also brother-in-law to Tom (Nevins, d.), Ed (Betz) and Jennifer (Gerstel), as well as fun-loving uncle to Arnav (Shah), Jonathan (Betz), and Jacob & Kyle (Samson).
During his remarkable life, Kurt kept his eyes and heart wide open to the world in which he found himself. Before settling in Annapolis, he lived in Nicosia, Cyprus; Taipei, Taiwan; Bangkok, Thailand; and Manila, Philippines. He was a gifted writer, artist and musician known for his curiosity, humor, storytelling, encyclopedic knowledge and deep love of his family. He was a longtime writer for the American Heart Association, and a regular contributor to news publications focused on the science of neurology and oncology. He could write about any subject well in a way that was compelling and accessible for physicians and laypersons. He loved learning and was always ready to share knowledge with those around him. Kurt also believed in giving service to his community and dedicated much of his life to A.A. and helping others.
A prayer service for Kurt will be held on Saturday, September 17 at 9:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St, Annapolis, MD.
