Kim A. Walters' Obituary
Kim Anne Walters, a computer project controller died March 19th at her home in Shady Side, MD from complications of a fall. She was 56. She was midst of battling lung cancer when she fell.
Kim was born March 31st 1958 in Baltimore. The daughter of John Linton and Elizabeth Piper Walters. She is predeceased by her parents and her brother John Michael Walters.
Kim it's survived by her wife of 32 years, Elizabeth Cory, her uncle, Francis Marion Walters lll, her brothers, Richard Miller Walters and his wife Sue, Christof Linton Walters and his wife Susan and a sister. Many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
She attended Key School and the University of MD receiving a BS degree in Zoology. She returned later to school to study computer programming and was employed at ARINC as a software tester. She was nicknamed "The Shark" at ARINC. Her attention to detail, organizational skills and determined focus enabled her to corral a team of engineers with incredible success. She helped to start the Integrated Critical Communications System group, working with high priority projects and proposals. She met challenging deadlines with remarkable success and was instrumental in winning many customer contracts.
At home Kim spent her time on many artistic endeavors: she was an accomplished water colorist, and taught herself weaving, caning, basketry, mosaics and leatherwork. She and her wife developed a successful screen printing business opening the Sun Dog Shop, a small clothing boutique, in Galesville, MD
Kim loved to be on the water. She especially enjoyed taking her rowing skiff into the shallow creeks and marshes near her home.
She was a great animal lover and communicator and enjoyed the company of her well trained and beloved dogs, cats and chickens. She had hours of fun teaching her dogs many Hollywood tricks and teaching her chicken Trixie to play the piano.
There will be a celebration of her life on June 20th at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation starting at Four o'clock until sunset. All are welcome.
