Kim Marie Kazanas' Obituary
Kim Kazanas, after a decades-long fight with Lupus and other ailments, slipped into the world of memories on the afternoon of March 6, 2025. As long as she's had her illness, she's fought, persevered, and defied all odds through countless hospital stays, and was expected to overcome this as well. A very strong and determined personality, her passing was unexpected.
Kim was born in New Jersey on January 24, 1957 to Stanley and Stella Lamontovich. A graduate from the Hun High School of Princeton, she graduated in 1979 from Washington D.C.'s Trinity College with a degree in English and Music. Her command of the English language made her valuable in the software testing field where she worked for about fifteen years. Following a bout of Lupus she was forced to take a break from work, and during that time she found her true calling of psychology. Getting a Master's degree from Bowie State University, she worked for more than 25 years as a licensed psychologist. Establishing Agape Mental Health Counseling Services, she touched countless lives and helped many families overcome their struggles.
In 1983 she married Demos Kazanas and they shared 42 wonderful years together. Kim was especially proud of her son Alex, whom she was fortunate and extremely happy to see married to Bethany, a wonderful daughter-in-law. Her greatest anticipation was the birth of her grandson, whom she sadly won't get to meet. Almost assuredly born to be a mother, she cared tremendously for any who came her way, be it human or animal. Her other greatest joys in life were her garden and her beloved cats.
She is survived by her husband, Demos; her son, Alexander; her sister, Sherri; many, many dear friends whom she considered family; and of course, her cats Oliver, Abby, and Bailey. A service will begin at 10:30 am on Monday, March 17 at Lasting Tributes, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis MD 21401 with a green burial to immediately follow at Bestgate Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to the Lupus Foundation of America (https://www.lupus.org).
