Kenneth F. Hunter, Jr.'s Obituary
KENNETH F. HUNTER, Jr., age 66, passed away on May 29th, 2018 at home, in Annapolis, MD from complications of Lewy Body Dementia.
Ken was born on 4/23/1952 to the late Kenneth F. Hunter, Sr. and Colette Lesieutre Hunter in New Rochelle, NY, but grew up in NJ. He is survived by his brothers’ Bill and Steven, as well as his wife, Ellen DeChant.
He graduated from Ridge High School, in Basking Ridge, NJ. Ken had his own carpentry/home improvement business which helped him to pay his way through college. He attended Newark College of Engineering (now New Jersey Institute of Technology), graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. Ken also obtained an MBA from the University of New Hampshire.
After graduation, Ken went to work with Standard Oil Company, which was later bought out by BP. While at this position, he met and married Paula Marlo. They moved to Alaska, where Ken worked with BP on the Alaskan Pipeline. After ten years there, Ken retired and purchased a motor home so they could tour the USA for a year.
They eventually settled in Annapolis, MD where Ken renovated a lovely home on the Magothy River while he could pursue his lifelong love: sailing. He purchased a 35 ft. Pearson sailboat and enjoyed many years sailing the Chesapeake Bay. He also sailed much of the Caribbean. Ken loved owning and refurbishing sports cars. He owned a FIAT X/19 and was an active member of the FIAT club of America.
After an unsuccessful marriage, Ken met and married Ellen DeChant. They remained devoted to each other, through his illness. Ken was intelligent, talented and dedicated. He was a genuinely kind and gracious person that made the world a better place by always putting others before himself. Ken will be missed, immeasurably.
