When Helen called me and said that Ken had died I and my wife were shocked and saddened. Many thoughts went through my head about how long we had known Ken; how he had shared his successes and his not so good times with me; his amazing sailing abilities; his gentle and kind way of interacting with people and his overall friendship and fellowship. We have had so many fun times with Ken, and it seems strange to think of him now passing to another phase of this strange journey that we all travel. To Helen, we wish you strength and determination as you move forward and reassure you that we are here to support you. Your Dad was a good man and a loyal friend. RIP Ken. Love Peter and Elizabeth

I was a sudden and sad moment when Helen said her Dad has passed away. What can i say about my Uncle Ken, to say that my uncle Ken played a big part of my childhood is an understatement. without seemingly trying to replace my dad, he did in a number of subtle and positive ways became my male role model. What do i remember most, was his work ethic - he was in my memory a very industrious man - what he did at Noel Gate in transforming the old family home, it was always a bit of a guessing game what changes he had done between our family visits, also his very dry sense of humour, didn't really strike me until i was much older. His generosity was beyond measure - family holidays were very very special times and ones that hold a very special memories. The last time i saw Ken was a flying visit to the UK when we met for dinner. I am happy now that i had the chance to tell him what he meant to me and how i very much admired and respected my Uncle Ken. Top man in so many way!

I am saddened by Ken’s passing. He comes to mind several times per week, mostly associated with our weekly lunches with our veteran’s group at Heritage Harbour called the Lost Patrol. Along with our mutual friend, Marc Clasen, we have been sharing the driving together for years. We included several others at times- an Army Brigadier General, Frank Hennessee, and an Air Force Colonel and WWII veteran, Dick Stanton. We talked freely about our military experiences over lunch, but it was even better in the car. Things we learned about Ken: as a child, surviving the German bombings of WWII; attending boarding school, his experience with the artillery in the British Army, his work experiences, his many sailing experiences, the cruises he sailed on, and his instructing sailing school. I would ask him to him to repeat each of the stories. He also had great love for his dog who passed away. He was a friend to all of us, and a gentleman. I miss him a lot. I will wrap this up informing you of his favorite lunches- shepherds pie and fish and chips!

Dear Ken, I’m so glad to have come to know you through our lively video sessions over the long distance between the USA and Switzerland. It delighted me to hear about your memories of your time in Switzerland, and I had truly looked forward to hosting you with Helen next year on a ‘Grand Tour’ of my country. You and I – we shared a passion for sailing. I would have loved to talk to you around the fire about our respective experiences "sailing close to the wind". The fact that you left us suddenly in August shocked me and reminded me of the transience of existence. I bid you farewell, dear Ken, sad at not having had the chance to deepen our friendship in person. I will always have fond memories of you.

Hi Daddy, Are you reading this page with tributes to you? I'd like to pay tribute to what I've learned about you since you died. I saw you over the years quietly doing all your house building, tent constructing, gale-force wind sailing, map gazing, dog loving, skiing, travelling, carefully documenting, catenary photographing, repairing and politicking. Guess what, those who consoled me when you went to the hitherto said what a kind, good-natured gentleman you were and how pleasant your company was. Of course I knew you were a gentle, understanding, patient dad, but these kind words of comfort brought home to me that you were really exceptional in your manner to all. I'm proud of your legacy of kindness, gentleness and helpfulness to all who knew you. You were lovely and I miss you every day.

in honor of Kenneth.

Ken was such a great neighbor and friend and we had many outdoor conversations when we lived on Ballast Way. Several times in good weather he would pop over and he, Shawn, and I would sit on our front porch and have a cold brew. One of my favorite memories was when he valiantly came to my rescue. It was a summer day and I was doing yard work in the front when I saw a large snake slither through the bushes. I screamed and Ken came over, as he was outside too. He calmly said, "No worries, I'll get a stick." He came back with a twigg...not a stick... and proceeded to calmly poke at the creature till it slithered onto the driveway, where we could see it was a water moccasin! I was so afraid Ken would get bitten but he remained cool, calm, and collected, as always. I called him my hero:) This hero of a man will be so missed. Godspeed, Ken.
