Kathryn Gentles Monk's Obituary
Kathryn Gentles Monk (Kay), 78, of Annapolis, MD passed away unexpectedly on September 19, 2017 from complications of open heart surgery. She is survived by her husband Dennis, daughter Kimberley Mathews (husband Doug), and sons John Monk (wife Irene), and Scott Monk. She is also survived by six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and numerous relatives both in the U.S. and Scotland.
Kay was born in Pittsburgh on July 27, 1939 to the late Mary and William Gentles, formerly of Glasgow, Scotland. At age four the family moved to San Bruno, CA near San Francisco. Kay graduated from San Francisco State University in 1961 and married Dennis Monk the following year. In 1980 she earned her Master’s of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan. Kay was active in many clubs and societies, and was a member of the Episcopal Church. Supporting her family, the arts and education were her highest priorities.
A memorial gathering will be held at Lasting Tributes Funeral Care on October 7, 2017 from 10:00 am until the start of her memorial service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to the Annapolis Opera.
