Katherine Anne Roberts' Obituary
Katherine Anne Roberts of Crofton, MD, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024, at the age of 87. Katherine was born on July 23, 1936, in Washington, D.C. to Martin and Carrie Hartung. Katherine was the youngest of 7 children.
In 1955, Katherine married Harry Otis Roberts, Jr. upon his return from serving in the U.S. Army in Greenland. Together they had 3 children. Once her children were a little bit older, Katherine went to work at Toys R Us. In her time at Toys R Us, she made lifelong friends, Carmela, Angie, Leslie, and Rosa. She retired after over 29 years.
Katherine, most affectionately known as Mamaw, loved taking care of children. She cared for her 11 grandchildren and for many of her 8 great-grandchildren (there is one more on the way) as much as she could. If you ask any of her family, this is some of what they would say about her: she loved Elvis; she mostly watched gameshows as she got older, but was known to watch her stories in her younger years; she could always be counted on for candy bar night on Saturday nights; she was a caregiver to her core; she had her own language that she swore was Spanish and was the funniest thing you ever heard; she was always there, always; she was a collector of wrapping paper, pictures, any greeting card ever given to her, and Precious Moments dolls; she loved going for walks and feeding the squirrels to ensure that they didn't jump on her; and she was always ready to put on a kid’s movie, or read a book to you, as soon as you asked.
Katherine was predeceased by her loving husband, Harry Roberts, Jr.; two sons, Danny (Missy) and Rusty (Beth) Roberts; four brothers, Melvin Hartung, Kenneth, Earl, and William Taylor; and two sisters, Mary Alice Adams, and Mildred (Bang-Bing) Romer.
Katherine “Mamaw” is survived by her daughter, Debbie Dean; granddaughter, Pam Borges; grandsons, David Dean, Bryan, Dennis, Michael (Lindy), Chris (Alicia), Matt, Adam (Brittni), Shane (Emily), Jaycee and Jayson Roberts; great-grandchildren, Luke and Madison Borges, Jasey-Rae Dean, Jenna, Nathan, Steven, Hayden, and Iveth Roberts (plus baby girl on the way); along with several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Our Mamaw will be missed dearly. There will never be anyone like her. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice of the Chesapeake. They took great care of Katherine until the very end. There will never be enough words to thank them for their exceptional care.
