Judith Ann Phillips' Obituary
Judith “Judy” Ann Phillips, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, in Annapolis, MD, just days shy of her 83rd birthday.
Judy was born on November 20, 1941, in Athens, AL, and was the only child of Benjamin Henderson and Ophelia Fogg Henderson. She attended high school at Highland Academy and was in the class of 1959. After graduating, she earned her bachelor’s at Southern College, which led to her teaching career in Limestone County.
Judy's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to family and her faith. She carried the warmth and wisdom of her roots with her as she built a life of compassion and grace, influencing everyone fortunate enough to know her.
After marrying the love of her life Richard Phillips in 1964, Judy and Richard built a life in Athens, AL where she became a cherished member of her community. Known for her radiant smile and kind heart, Judy devoted herself to her family and the causes close to her. She was an active in her church community, a creative spirit, and a source of inspiration to many. Judy moved to Annapolis, MD from Chattanooga, TN after Richard passed away in 2014.
After moving to Ginger Cove in Annapolis, Judy was welcomed by a new community of friends and stayed in close contact with family and friends from all over the country. She served as an editor for the Ginger Cove newsletter and was a beloved and active resident, appreciated for her wonderful sense of humor and caring nature.
Judy is survived by her devoted sons James Phillips of Chicago, IL; Brad Phillips, wife Mindy Lehman and two grandchildren Charlotte and Emerson of Annapolis, MD, along with countless friends who will remember her as a source of unconditional love and endless encouragement. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled in her loved ones and the lives she touched throughout her journey.
A celebration of Judy’s life will be held at Collegedale Memorial Park, Ootewah, TN, on December 6 at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in her memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at https://bit.ly/judyphllipstribute
