Judith Emily Faust's Obituary
On February 26th, Judith Emily Faust (Judie) lost her battle with cancer and passed away at Hospice of the Chesapeake.
Judie was born in Flushing, NY to Emily (Sadie) and Elmore Tomkins October 24, 1939. After living a short time in Redondo Beach, CA, she returned to Douglaston in Queens, NY. Judie graduated from Bayside High School and went on to attend Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA earning a BS in Mathematics in 1961. There, Judie was a member of Tau Sigma Gamma Sorority and Manager of the Badminton Team. She also met Jim (James R. Faust). They married in 1963, moved to Greenbelt, MD and Judie took a job at the Census Bureau as a researcher. In 1966, they moved to Crofton, MD to raise their sons Jason (1966) and Jeff (1967). Their active role in the community led to creation of COMANCO, Inc. the company Judie would serve as President of for the next 45 years. Judie retired in 2012 and remained living in the Crofton area until her death.
She had an inner strength that fueled her desire to do the job right as a businesswoman, competitiveness as a tennis player (winning both singles and doubles championships at CSTC), and wage her own fight against breast, skin and lung cancers. Judie loved collecting anything – roosters, commemorative plates, antique furniture, firefighting equipment – but she adored her Teddy Bear collection most. She was an avid Washington Redskins fan, and considered herself a true Marylander who loved steamed crabs and lacrosse, rooting for the Chesapeake Bayhawks the last 10 years.
Judie is survived by Jim, her husband of 54 years, and her 2 sons’ families: Jason, Schain and Addie (granddaughter), and Jeff, Amy, Mason (grandson) and Ava (granddaughter). The family invites anyone interested in sharing memories and support to Judie’s memorial service, 6-8pm March 7th at Lasting Tributes, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis MD. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial contributions to the American Lung Association (www.lung.org).
