Joyce Elaine Bors' Obituary
Joyce Elaine (Clift) Bors, 90, passed away on July 20, 2024, in Jacksonville, FL. She was born on July 4, 1934, and raised in Binghamton, NY, the only child of Clarence and Beatrice Clift. Upon graduating from North High School, she worked at Bendix Corporation in Montrose, PA where she met her future husband, Anthony Joseph Bors, also of Binghamton. Joyce was received into the Catholic Church before their wedding in 1955. Joyce and Tony raised their six children in New Carrolton, MD. After raising her children, Joyce worked as a Secretary at the University of Maryland.
She lived her faith in many ways. Joyce taught Religious Education and was active in the Cana Club, Ladies Sodality, the Serra Club which promotes priestly vocations, the St. Vincent de Paul Society which helps the poor, and bereavement ministries.
Joyce loved her family and friends and was well-liked by all who met her. She enjoyed family gatherings and loved to travel, shop, go on cruises, and play at casinos. After the death of Tony, she moved to The Villages, FL, and later Ponte Vedra, FL, near family where she enjoyed spending time with friends, playing Sudoku, and regularly winning at Texas Hold-‘em.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Tony, and daughters-in-law Loretta and Shirley. Joyce is survived by her six children: Robert of Saskatchewan, Canada; Gary (Susan) of Camp Hill, PA; James of Annapolis, MD; Sharon (William) of Ponte Vedra, FL; Dianne (John) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; and Richard (Kimberlee) of Ellicott City, MD; her 14 grandchildren: Kirk, Aurora, Nicholas, Rebecca, Christian, Michael, Jeffrey, Joseph, Maria, Caroline, Catherine, Patrick, Kevin, and Madelyn; and her five great-grandchildren: Isabella, Gabriella, Christian Jr., Etta, and Beau.
Visitation will be Friday, July 26, from 4 -7 pm at Lasting Tributes Cremation & Funeral Care, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by her son, Father James Bors, on Saturday, July 27, 2024, 11 am at St. Andrew By-the-Bay Catholic Church, 701 College Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21409. Interment will be Monday, July 29, 2 pm at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20906.
