Joseph Richard White's Obituary
Joseph R. White, 75, of Alma, West Virginia, died on Friday, November 8, 2013, in Annapolis, Maryland, of cancer.
Joseph was born on February 1, 1938 to Florence (Aufenanger) White and William White in Jersey City, New Jersey. He grew up with his brother, James, and attended St. Nicholas school in Jersey City, New Jersey. He married Peggy Shields on July 22, 1967. He served honorably in the United States Air Force as a firefighter and served a tour of duty overseas. He was a disabled veteran and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 471 in Port Jervis, New York, during which he served as a Grand Knight and a District Deputy. He worked for the United States Postal Service (USPS) for 33 years in various locations throughout New Jersey. Joseph and Peggy raised their family in Milford, Pennsylvania. Upon retiring from the USPS, they moved to Alma, West Virginia and began a farm in the country. Joseph also began a second career working at a youth detention facility in West Virginia for several years. He enjoyed working outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating, and building and fixing things. He was one of a kind, got along with everyone, always helped his neighbors, never minced words, was a great cook, and always made you laugh. There will never be another like him, he was a true original.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Peggy, son Michael of Clarksburg, West Virginia, daughter Kathleen of Annapolis, Maryland, daughter Nancy of Alexandria, Virginia, granddaughters Grace and Gabriella of Alexandria, Virginia, brother James of Mercerville, New Jersey, several nephews, nieces, cousins, and many good friends in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
A Catholic memorial mass will be held at St. John Neumann church in Annapolis, Maryland on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. A family reception will be held afterwards at Romano's Macaroni Grill in Annapolis, Maryland.
